November in Argentina: A Spring Recap
Jeff stopping to smell the roses in El Rosedal
November has quickly become one of my favorite months in Argentina — and not just because it’s springtime down here. While friends back home are gearing up for the chill and holiday rush, we’re soaking in mild temperatures, longer days, and a city bursting with color. It’s shoulder season, which means fewer crowds and the perfect excuse for anyone planning a trip: come in November. The jacarandas are blooming, the breezes are warm but not hot, and the city really comes alive.
One highlight this month was finally visiting El Rosedal, Buenos Aires’ famous rose garden. Somehow, we hadn’t made it there before, but now I’m determined to make up for lost time. It’s completely free, and genuinely stunning — rows upon rows of roses in every shade imaginable, peaceful ponds, picturesque bridges, and plenty of spots to sit and pretend you’re in a postcard.
Steaksgiving in Argentina - us celebrating with a tomahawk
We also celebrated one of our favorite self-invented holidays: Steaksgiving. Since we’re usually abroad for Thanksgiving, we learned early on that seeking out traditional turkey dinners in foreign countries tends to end with overpriced buffets and a lot of disappointment. The effort to recreate American Thanksgiving staples in places where cranberries and stuffing aren’t exactly shelf staples… it shows. After a couple years of disappointment, we decided to invent our own tradition.
And now it’s become its own little international celebration: we’ve enjoyed Steaksgiving in Panama, Paraguay, and Argentina - and each one has been better (and tastier) than the last.
This year we headed to Santo Domingo Parrilla in La Plata and it did not disappoint. We kicked off with two incredible empanadas, shared a fresh salad, and then dove into a perfectly cooked tomahawk steak. The best part? The entire feast - including tip - was $50. Honestly, that alone gives you a good idea of why we love it here.
November gave us sunshine, adventure, good food, and a reminder of why we chose to spend this season of life in Argentina. If you’re looking for the perfect time to visit — consider this your sign.
